If you’re a social media addict like I am, chances are that you must have also come across words like ‘womyn’ and ‘womxn’. And you too, like me, must have stopped to wonder what these words are all about. It was only recently that I unravelled the mystery behind such alternate spellings. And no, they are not typos. In fact, in simple language ‘womyn’ and ‘womxn’ are two of the most commonly used substitutes to avoid using the suffix ‘-men’ at the end of the term ‘women’.

TERF WARS (2021) is a documentary investigating the ideological war waged between Gender Critical Feminists and Trans Rights Activists, culminating in calls for the ‘cancellation’ of British author JK Rowling.

当初、ジェンダーという用語は、男性と女性が社会で果たす役割と深く関係していました。
特にフェミニストは、女性が奴隷生活に運命づけられているという意味で、ジェンダーの役割は女性にとって不公平であり、逆に男性は社会の中で主要なものになるために無限の道を歩むことができると感じました。

女性は完全に夫に依存しており、彼らの家、特に台所とベッドに縛られていました。
フェミニストは変化を望んでいました。フェミニストはその運命から女性を自由化し、ジェンダーの役割の衰弱を望んでいました。

つまり、ほとんどの場合、各個人のジェンダーの役割に関するステレオタイプと見方が、その思考プロセスにおいて、大きな役割を果たしていることを意味します。

したがって、最終的には、「各個人が想像するジェンダー」として「識別」していることがわかります。
つまり、これを知ることはあまり役に立ちません。

代わりに、生物学的性別が常により価値のある情報になります。

生物学的な男性と女性を、「男性」や「女性」とは異なる言葉で識別する必要があると考えることは、失敗だったと言えます。

「男性と女性の新しい定義」はこれからも続くのでしょうか、それとも消えてしまうのでしょうか？

When I say that transgenderism is culture bound, don’t get me wrong: I think every gender role and presentation is, in fact, dependent on culture.  The entire idea of gender, the roles that are developed and called “gender,” are based on the sex binary.  That’s why almost always, when you see gender roles, even if there are more than two, you can bet money that it’s just a matter of reclassifying people who don’t fit into a culture’s otherwise rigidly defined sex roles.

Which brings us to the indigenous people of North America.

McIver’s Ladies Baths in Coogee updated their website on Monday after being called out for an exclusionary statement about transgender women.

The original text read:

 “Only transgender women who’ve undergone a gender reassignment surgery are allowed entry. Please contact us for further information if required.”

The updated text is less direct: 

“Yes. Transgender women are welcome to the McIver’s Ladies Baths, our definition for transgender is as per the NSW Discrimination Act.”

This definition has been in place since 1995 and requires gender confirmation surgery before an individual is legally considered to have transitioned.

The Baths’ Facebook page posted later that day, asking that all queries be directed to the Randwick City Council.

 
 The post was the centre of some controversy, with thousands of community members expressing their disappointment, before it was also removed.
